In a medium bowl, stir together flours, baking powder and nutmeg until well combined
Using an electric mixer, mix the butter, oil, egg, sugar and vanilla until blended.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix on low speed until combined.
Gather the dough into a ball, flatten into a disc shape and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least an hour, up to 2 days.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll dough on a lightly floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into desired Holiday shapes and transfer to greased baking sheet.
Bake for 6 minutes or until lightly browned.
What a great Holiday cookie! I have modified the traditional sugar cookie by adding whole wheat flour, and cutting back the butter and sugar considerably. All of this without sacrificing flavour! Here is a recipe I got from a friend of mine for the most amazing chocolate icing to decorate these - 1 avocado, 1/4 cup of maple syrup and 1/4 cup of cocoa, mix until blended. Unbelievable!!!! Enjoy!
