1. You are not taking the time to cook.
When you take the time to make your own meals you will simply eat better. Seek out quick and easy recipes and plan your week to get nutritious meals on the table. Take advantage of the healthy convenience foods at the grocery store – like pre-packaged salads and cut-up veggies. Also, make use of your leftovers so you can have a nutritious lunch the next day!
2. You are not eating enough fruit and veggies.
I know you have heard this a million times, but it is so important and most people just simply do not eat enough, especially veggies. And veggies are so spectacular because they are packed with nutrition for such few calories! Sneak veggies into soups, spaghetti sauces and casseroles by puréeing them…this is a great tip to add more veggies to your eating plan without even knowing!
3. You are skipping breakfast.
Yes – it is the most important meal of the day! It kick starts your metabolism. Studies show people that eat breakfast consume fewer calories throughout the day. Be sure you eat something within 2 hours of rising. Make it simple, and be sure to include fibre and protein for lasting energy!
4. You are a late night snacker.
Be sure you are consuming enough calories throughout the day so you are not ravenous at night. It is not so much when you eat, but the choices we make late at night. We are not usually reaching for a yogurt or some fruit…it is usually a higher calorie, higher fat choice.
5. You are eating when doing other things.
In other words, you are mindlessly eating. If you are eating while watching TV, on the computer, driving…you are not paying attention to your food and your portions. I have had many clients achieve success with weight loss just by eating all food at the table.
I hope some of these tips may help you achieve your goals for the New Year!
